A six-month Guardian multimedia investigation has, for the first time, tracked how some of the world’s big-supermakets, Tesco, Aldi, Walmart and Morrisons, are using suppliers relying on slave labour to put cheap prawns on their shelves. Slavery is back and here’s the proof.
Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. Warning: some may find this film distressing.
Trailer: SLAVES OF THE OCEAN
Slaves of the Ocean reveals slavery at sea. The men’s true stories reveals that while on board, they were insulted, beaten, tortured, touched sexually, groped and, in some cases, raped. As the men say here, ‘We were slaves.’ Although they finally received some payment for their months at sea, it was with constant abuse and violation of human rights. And, they were at sea – they could not escape the daily torture. The NO Project is honoured to collaborate with the Director of this film.
